What it is like
Playa del Portitxol combines a golden-sand beach with a landscape where the pine forest reaches almost to the water. The shore is 250 metres long and 25 metres wide, has a semi-urban frontage and lies near the ruins of the Greek city of Ampurias, while also retaining the curious rock formation known as the El Portitxol arch. The swell is usually moderate and there may be wind. It is reached on foot or by car, with more than 100 parking spaces, and offers food establishments, showers and water-sports hire.
