What it is like
Playa de Carriciega, also called Carniciega or De Barquera, is an isolated golden-sand beach forming part of the Paisaje Protegido del Cabo Peñas. It extends for 340 metres and reaches a width of 70 metres, with a mountainous, vegetated frontage, as well as protection as a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) and a Site of Community Importance (SCI). Visitor numbers are low and strong surf is part of the description in the listing. Access on foot from the AS-239 is easy; during the summer season it has lifeguard services, first aid and danger signage.
