Playa Costacabana combines an urban and semi-urban frontage with a dark-gravel shore 1,200 metres long and 35 metres wide. It is situated very close to the airport and usually has moderate waves and continuous wind. The seafront promenade and the proximity of the urban fabric shape its landscape, while the Club de Mar de Almería is given as the area's nautical reference. It is reached by car via the road from Almería; there are between 50 and 100 parking spaces, urban transport and accessibility measures for people with reduced mobility.
