What it is like

Characteristics published by official sources

At the edge of the ría del Masma, Playa Altar offers a white-sand area 1,100 metres long and up to 250 metres wide. Its landscape combines dunes and cliffs, with vegetation and ZEPA protection, while the usual waves are moderate. The nearby Pena de Altar, an island accessible at low tide, also contributes to the site's uniqueness. It is a semi-urban beach, easily reached on foot, with parking for between 50 and 100 vehicles and services including toilets, showers and food outlets.
