What it is like
Playa de Area Maior, also known as Louro, is an undeveloped white-sand beach at the foot of Monte Louro. The beach reaches 1,500 metres in length and 40 metres in width, with vegetation and surroundings protected by the Natura 2000 Network and the Site of Community Importance (SCI). Although it is listed as having an urban frontage, it retains an isolated character and has low use, exposed to strong waves and wind. It is reached by car via the C-550, with signage; showers and foot-washing facilities are the main practical services.
