What it is like
Río Maior, also known as O Dique, is an isolated beach within the Natura 2000 Network. Its small scale—80 metres long and 30 metres wide—combines white and golden sand with rock, below a vegetation-covered mountain slope. Occupancy is medium and the usual swell is strong, a feature accompanying this protected coastal stretch. It is easily accessed on foot from the C-550, with an interurban route 500 metres away; cleaning is provided as a basic facility.
